A first for the French River Rapids

It took an overtime goal over a fellow expansion team — and on the road no less — for the French River Rapids to post their first regular-season victory in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Ian Robbie’s second goal of the game, three-plus minutes into overtime, lifted French River to a 3-2 triumph over the Espanola Express on Friday.

The initial win for French River came after the Rapids had lost their first 13 games of the 2015-2016 season.

In a touch of irony, retread goalie Zach Mills, who was recently signed by French River as a free agent, made 33 saves to earn the win for the Rapids.

Mills spent the 2014-2015 campaign with the Blind River Beavers, who lost all 52 of their regular-season games. Mills was the goalie of record in 21 of Blind River’s defeats last season.

What you think about “A first for the French River Rapids”

  1. Hey French River fan you do realize that they are an expansion team. Awful is what you are saying about a bunch of 17-18 year olds when you have no clue. I was fortunate to see a game in Noelville and the people are great there, here’s hoping you are not from there to soil the good peoples name.
