A win for the Walleye

Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League shook off a pair of narrow losses to the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to take the third match of a three game inter league exhibition set today at NorWest Arena in Thunder Bay.

A 12-round shootout provided a 5-4 victory for Kam River, which had lost the first two games of the hotly contested inter league series to the Michigan Soo by 3-2 and 5-3 scores.

Cooper Fink scored twice in regulation time and connected for the shootout winner and fellow rookie forward Euan Morrison and veteran defenceman Kyle Lamoureux also netted goals for Kam River in today’s victory for the host Fighting Walleye.

Kenny Belanger, Alex Freund, Brian Fiddes and Vince Anderson replied for the Eagles. A Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario product and 18-year old forward, Belanger was acquired by the Eagles from the Soo Thunderbirds in an off season NOJHL trade.
