Charly Murray, senior advisor and scouting director for the Blind River Beavers of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, has added another scout to his staff.

Murray told HockeyNewsNorth.com that Jerry Lortie Jr. will join the Beavers as a Sault Ste. Marie-based scout.

Lortie Jr. is the son of Murray’s old friend, the late Jerry Lortie Sr.

Lortie Sr. was a very-succesfull and well-respected former NOJHL coach with the erstwhile Northern Michigan Black Bears. Murray worked alongside Lortie Sr. with the old Black Bears as both an assistant coach and a scout.

The younger Lortie has a lengthy and reputable background in hockey as a long-time assistant coach with the Soo Thunder minor midgets.

With Murray at the helm and with the addition of Lortie Jr., the Blind River scouting department now stands at five. The other three are David Legree, a former Ontario Hockey League goalie with the Soo Greyhounds, (retired) Colonel Michael Carr and Jim Thomas.
