Assinewai assists Cubs

Sudbury Cubs of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have added a skilled forward with 46 games of Ontario Hockey League experience to their lineup. 18-year old Samuel Assinewai made his debut with the Cubs on Thursday and had an assist as league leading Sudbury improved its record to 13-2-2 with a 3-2 overtime win over the Timmins Rock.

The 5-foot-11, 160 pound Assinewai joined the NOJHL Cubs from the Flint Firebirds of the OHL. A former 13th round pick by Flint, Assinewai netted six goals, 10 assists, 16 points in 46 games with Flint spanning last season and this one.

“I am looking forward to having fun playing the game once again,” said Assnewai, who hails from the Manitoulin Island town of Little Current. “I need to play big minutes and important minutes … I sincerely look forward to developing my skills with the Cubs and helping lead them to a championship season.”
