Beavers and Red Wings
Arch-rivals representing nearby towns along rugged highways, Blind River Beavers and Elliot Lake Red Wings will begin their best-of-three Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League preliminary round playoff series tonight. Start time is slated for 7:00 in Blind River.
Game 2 will go on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Elliot Lake and should a deciding match be needed, it will be played in Blind River on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Blind River finished the regular season in fourth place in the West Division with a record of 25-17-6 while Elliot Lake was fifth with a 17-29-2 mark.
The two teams met eight times during the regular season with the Beavers winning five times, including once in overtime. Both teams were able to win road games against each other.
The winner of the series will go on to meet the top-seeded Soo Thunderbirds, who have won 18 straight games and claimed the NOJHL’s regular season title.
