Beware the EL Wildcats

Which is the hottest team in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League? Soo Thunderbirds? Powassan Voodoos? How about the Elliot Lake Wildcats?

While the Soo and Powassan have maintained first place in their respective divisions, it is Elliot Lake that is on a league-best run with a record of 6-0-3 in its last 9 games.

The winning ways of the Wildcats have improved Elliot Lake’s record to 17-20-5. And with 39 points, fifth-place Elliot Lake is within 8 points of the fourth-place Soo Eagles in the West Division while holding five games in hand on the Michiganders.

What you think about “Beware the EL Wildcats”

  1. Never count out The Crunch. The Soo and Powassan are too cocky, and because the win/loss column of the Crunch is balanced, they know how to deal with a loss. There is no more pathetic sight than watching the T-Birds when they are losing a game. The Voodoos are worse, even when they win, it seems they aren’t satisfied. The Voodoos seem to play the roughest game I have ever seen and somehow they are the least penalized. They provoke the competition with cheap facewashing, snow jobs for the goaltenders, and late hits. Some day a referee may see their methods and reward them with a well deserved penalty or ten.
The Wildcats are ready, the Beavers are peaking, Timmins cannot be written off either. I am picking Soo/Espanola for the HWY 17 finals and Timmins/Cochrane for the HWY 11 finals. The Voodoos magic has skated off to the OHL.
