He is not known as a big goal scorer.

But Brett Jeffries had a big game on Tuesday, scoring four goals to spark the Soo Thunderbirds to a 7-3 victory over the visiting Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League action.

Jeffries now has 15 goals in 43 games on the season.

Jaren Bellini, Devin Shell and Boris Katchouk also scored for the Thunderbirds, who extended their lead atop the NOJHL’s overall standings to four points over the second-seeded Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.

The Soo has 70 points from a record of 32-5-6.

The game marked the return of plum defenceman Owen Headrick to the T-Bird lineup. Headrick — who has a future commitment to play at the Division 1, Western Collegiate Hockey Association level for the cross-river Lake Superior State University Lakers — had two assists in his first appearance after being sidelined for 39 games following shoulder surgery.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s loss for Blind River dropped its record to 0-44-1.
