Big guy back with Soo Eagles
Having weighed a few options, power forward Chris Murphy has opted to return to the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League for the 2016-2017 campaign.
The big guy, who stands in at 6-foot-2 and tips the scales at 200 pounds, joined the Eagles late in the 2015-2016 season from the North American Hockey League.
A Livonia, Michigan product, Murphy managed 3 goals, 9 assists, 12 points in 19 regular-season games for the Eagles before hitting his stride in the playoffs with 5 goals, 3 assists, 8 points in 6 outings.
Eagles co-coach/general manager Bruno Bragagnolo has high expectations for Murphy, who has a 1996 birth date and is heading into his final season of junior hockey.
“He has exceptional hands with a powerful stride with great hockey sense and vision,” Bragagnolo said of Murphy. “He is a last-year player who says he has something to prove this year. We expect him to be leader on and off the ice and we think he can put up some really good numbers. Just another well-coached Belle Tire product.”
Glad to see Murph is back, I think he will have a great season this year and be in the top3 in scoring
