Birds put a dozen past the Beavers
Veteran Nic Tassone and rookie Nic Sicoly both posted three-goal, two-assist outings and Jaren Bellini set up three markers as the Soo Thunderbirds overwhelmed the visiting Blind River Beavers 12-1 on Sunday in the regular-season opener for the two Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League teams.
The game also marked the 2014-2015 debut of the annual Carmen Provenzano Memorial Cup series between the two Highway 17 rivals.
And it was a one-sided session as the Thunderbirds outshot the Beavers 53-19 and scored six times in the third period to put the game away.
Rookie goalie Mario Culina stopped 18 shots for the Thunderbirds in his first NOJHL start.

I watched the Batchewana Attack play yesterday and then the Thunderbirds play last nite. It is my opinion that the Attack are a team of close talent to that of the Thunderbirds. I am impressed with this “Attack” team!
Looks like it’s going to be a very long tough year if your a Beaver.
I really do feel bad for the people of Blind River I hear that the Beavers are heading to Sudbury tonight with 11 skaters. Times are tough it will be hard to finish out the year.
