Goalie Matt Blattenberger made 64 saves to post the shutout and the Blind River Beavers — in what ranks as the upset of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season — blanked the visiting Soo Thunderbirds 1-0 on Saturday night.

The Soo out-shot Blind River by a resounding 64-12 margin but could not put a puck past Blattenburger, whose saves total included 29 in the second period and 21 more in the third.

1999 birth-year forward Max Khull — an Ontario Hockey League draft pick of the Niagara Ice Dogs — scored the game’s only goal with less than five minutes to go in the third period.

The win boosted the Beavers record to 6-23-1 while the West Division-leading Thunderbirds lost for just the third time in 26 games this season.

  4. That was the best goal tending that I of seen by a Beavs goalie since Randy Willis when we won the Playoffs Series.
