Timmins Rock is poised to defend its 2022-2023 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League championship in 2023-2024 with its ace goalie between the pipes for another season.

Patrick Boivin, at the Centennial Cup.

20-year old Patrick Boivin has confirmed his intention to return to the Rock for his final season of junior eligibility in ’23-24. Hailing from Blind River, Ontario, the medium size goalie was an absolute Rock in backstopping Timmins to first place overall during the ’22-23 NOJHL regular season and then to the league playoff championship. Boivin then capped the ’22-23 campaign with an eye-popping showing as Timmins represented the NOJHL well at the 10-team Centennial Cup national championship tournament.

In all, Boivin had a 27-7-2 record with a 1.98 goals against average and .920 save percentage during the ’22-23 regular season. He followed that with a playoff record of 7-2-1 with a 2.10 goals against average and .916 save percentage and was in the net when Timmins ousted the Soo Thunderbirds with clutch victories in Games 5 and 6 to take the NOJHL championship series. Boivin then stood on his head with a 2-1-0 record, 1.90 goals against average and .950 save percentage as Timmins became the first NOJHL team since 2012 to win games at the Centennial Cup.

Rock head coach and general manager Brandon Perry, who expertly piloted Timmins to NOJHL glory in just his second season on the job in ’22-23, told Hockey News North that he is “ecstatic” to have Boivin returning in ’23-24.

“Simply ecstatic to have Patty back in the maroon and gold,” Perry began. “I have loved how competitive he is since his (Great North Under 18 Hockey League days) coaching against him … very fortunate to have him on our side now.

“He had a brilliant season,” Perry continued, “and was the MVP at the Centennial Cup. No one on any team had more of an impact on a game than he did out there (in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.) This one piece puts , having Patty back with us, puts us in good position to challenge for another (NOJHL) title this upcoming year.”
