Sault Ste. Marie product AJ Borrelli is getting an extended stay with the Blind River Beavers of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. The 16-year old goalie will remain with Blind River as an affiliate player until February 4, Hockey News North has confirmed.

AJ Borrelli will stay with the Blind River Beavers until Feb. 4.

Borrelli dressed as the backup goalie to Beavers veteran Gavin Disano for a pair of games on the weekend. Borrelli was summoned by Blind River from the Sudbury U18 Nickel Capitals of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League after the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League recently signed Beavers rookie goalie Charlie Burns. Burns, who made his OHL debut in a 6-2 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on the weekend, is expected to stay with Niagara for another 10 days or so.

With Burns still up with the OHL IceDogs, U18 Nickel Capitals head coach Brian Dickinson graciously gave Borrelli the go-ahead to stay in the NOJHL with Blind River in the meantime. Borrelli has a 3-7-0 record and 3.71 goals against average on a U18 Nickel Capitals club that currently has a team record of 5-14-0 and a 4.11 GAA in the GNU18HL.
