Champagne expected to sparkle

Powassan Voodoos have acquired North Bay native Eric Champagne in a Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League exchange with the Rayside-Balfour Canadians.

A good-sized, 1995 birth-year forward, Champagne poured in 30 goals in 2014-2015 while splitting the season between the English River Miners of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League and the NOJHL’s Sudbury Nickel Barons, who have since moved to Rayside-Balfour and become the Canadians.

“Eric wanted to play closer to home and as a 20-year-old, we expect him to be a top 6 forward and give a big boost to our offense this coming season,” said Powassan general manager Chris Dawson.

Champagne was an NOJHL all-star in his 2013-2014 rookie season in the NOJHL when he played for the erstwhile North Bay Trappers.
