Soo Eagles have rebounded from a sluggish start to the ’24-25 regular season to move up to the middle of the standings among the 12 teams of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. Leading by example, captain Lucas Caulfield is one of the offensive forces for the Eagles with seven goals, three assists, 10 points in nine games.

The Eagles lost three of four games to begin the ’24-25 season but have since won four of five and take a record of 5-4-0 into a three game road trip to the far reaches of northeastern Ontario this weekend.

As for Caulfield, he is the epitome of a team leader and character individual, said Eagles general manager Bruno Bragagnolo.

“He is everything you want in a captain,” Bragagnolo relayed to Hockey News North. “He wanted to come back and play for us again this season. He committed to us early that he would return. Lucas is a great kid and a great leader and as a player, his skill and smarts are really evident.”

Bragagnolo, who has been the Eagles general manager and head of hockey operations since 2010, said Caulfield is as good a captain as the Michigan Soo squad has had.

Hailing from Chicago and with a 2005 birth date, the 6 foot, 190 pound Caulfield is a client of long-time family advisor David Maciuk of JDM Sports. Maciuk, who is originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, has lived in the Chicago area for decades and represents players from all over North America.
