The first place team in the West Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League strengthened itself at the Canadian Jr. Hockey League trade deadline. Sudbury Cubs obtained big centre man Kaden Laverdiere of the last place Elliot Lake Red Wings in a cash exchange.

The 19-year old Laverdiere, who was Elliot Lake’s captain, had eight goals, 12 assists, 20 points in 30 games for the Red Wings this season. He had 22 points, including 13 goals, for Elliot Lake in 2021-2022.

Cubs general manager Dave Clancy noted that Laverdiere is “a good face-off man who is hard on pucks and plays a physical brand of hockey. We were also looking to add some veteran leadership to support our younger line-up and Kaden checks all of the boxes for us.”
