Coach not happy with T-Birds
Soo Thunderbirds had an off night on Wednesday and the result was a 3-0 blanking at the hands of the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats at John Rhodes Community Centre.
The loss dropped the Thunderbirds record to 18-3-2, though they remain atop the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League standings.
Thunderbirds coach Jordan Smith was not impressed with the effort of his team.
“(Elliot Lake) is a good team, and when you don’t show up to play you can’t expect to win,” Smith told Sun Media. “(Elliot Lake) played an excellent game. They outworked us.”
Smith noted that he does not expect the Thunderbirds to win every game “but the effort has to be there.
“When the effort is not there and the compete level is not there, there needs to be changes,” Smith continued. “There might be some unhappy guys heading forward but I don’t really have time for guys who aren’t interested in competing every night.”
Kevin Miller, Shane Woolsey and Cole Hepler scored for Elliot Lake and A.J. Smith made 35 saves for the shutout.
Is it true Mattawa fired their coach? And now have a new one?

Mr white was with Nepean in the CCHL a few years ago when they made it to the Fred page cup, the next year he was coaching minor hockey, then moved to the head coach of the Brockville braves, he didn’t amount to much in Brockville before getting let go.
