Cochrane Crunch, already a Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League contender with a record of 12-3, has added a pair of veteran forwards from elsewhere in the Canadian Jr. Hockey League.

Crunch owner-general manager-coach Ryan Leonard confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that Cochrane has acquired 1995 birth-year forward Evan Akkerman from the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Jr. Hockey League and 1996 birth-year forward Jon Marzec from the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League.

Leonard referred to Akkerman’s leadership and experience and said the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder looms as a top-line player for the Crunch.

As for Marzec, Crunch head scout Chad Vresk described the 5-foot-7, 160-pounder as “very quick and full of energy. He knows how to score.”

Marzec and Akkerman are expected to play on a line with Crunch gun-slinger Dustin Cordeiro, who already has 19 goals for Cochrane thus far this season.

What you think about “Crunch adds seasoned skaters”

  1. Akkerman looked pretty good during his first game in the NOJHL here against the Rock, even though the team lost by one goal. Looks like he will be a real asset. Recent defensive pick up Taylor Armbruster looked good in that game, as well. Have not had a chance to see Marzec yet. Looks like the Crunch’s high-flying offence is getting even more explosive.

  2. I’ll have to say that the Voodoo were literally handed a win in Timmins on Saturday. Hard fought game and to see a cheesy call like that with a buck 30 left in the third is sad. One official immediately left the ice after the buzzer and ran down the corridor and the other stuck around to hand out a suspension because…….well he has a penchant for doing things like that….total joke.

  3. you call it cheesy and I call it gutsy.
a two handed slash is a two handed slash, no matter how much time on the clock.

btw: caught a game recently in IF and I do believe I met the village idiot.

  4. Hey Captain Crunch you played Timmins and K L. and they still have their Pants on. I hope you can wait a little longer lol.
