Crunch a punch away
Cochrane Crunch is one click away from punching its ticket into the Dudley Hewitt Cup, Central Canada championships.
A shorthanded goal by Kyle Herbster late in the third period of Sunday’s Game 5 of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League finals lifted visiting Cochrane to a 3-2 win over the Rayside Balfour Canadians.
With the triumph, the Crunch leads the best-of-seven set three games to two and can capture its first-ever NOJHL crown on Tuesday night in Cochrane.
After dropping the first two games of the series, coach Ryan Leonard’s Cochrane crew has won three straight contests.
The winner of the series will represent the NOJHL at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup tournament, May 1-5, in Dryden, Ont.
