All-star defenseman Joe Thielen is moving up from the Cochrane Crunch of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to the Curry College Colonels, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Curry College is a Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association school that is located just outside Boston, Massachusetts.

Thielen is making the jump to the NCAA ranks despite having one more year of junior eligibility remaining. He becomes the sixth player from the 2016-2017 edition of the Crunch to get an NCAA commitment.

“Joe has played a big part in our program’s success over the past two seasons and we are happy to see him get this opportunity,” noted Cochrane owner-general manager coach Ryan Leonard.

Regular season and playoffs included, Thielen has totaled 16 goals, 63 assists, 79 points in 100 NOJHL games for Cochrane over the past two years.
