Sudbury Cubs are the big bears of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. Under the committed ownership of Mark Burgess and his chief lieutenant Blaine Smith, the Cubs have brought a junior hockey championship to Greater Sudbury.

In front of a frenzied hometown crowd of well over 1,000 fans tonight, the Cubs scored three third period goals to cuff the Powassan Voodoos by a 5-3 score to win the NOJHL championship four games to one.

The series win by the Cubs over Powassan has come on the heels of a first round conquest by Sudbury of the Soo Thunderbirds and a second round triumph over the Blind River Beavers.

In all, the Cubs won 12 of 16 playoff games to take the NOJHL championship.
