D1 deal for Powassan standout
Six foot three, 200 pound forward Alexandre Saulnier of the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League has committed to Providence College’s Division 1 National Collegiate Athletic Association program for the ’29-30 season.
Saulnier, a second round pick by the North Bay Battalion at the 2026 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft, joined the Voodoos earlier this month and in six NOJHL games to date, has three goals six assists, nine points.
Saulnier is thrilled with the news about his future but noted that his priority is with the NOJHL Voodoos and the OHL Battalion.
“I’m honoured and thrilled about the opportunities in my future, but for now, I’m focused on getting better and contributing to the Voodoos and Battalion successes,” said Saulnier.
Powassan general manager Chris Dawson noted that “I think this is proof once again that the NOJHL is a great developmental league.”
The Providence College Friars are members of the 11-school Hockey East Conference of the NCAA.
