A championship skater from the Great North Under 18 Hockey League who is also an Ontario Hockey League draft pick will suit up for the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League this coming season.

High scoring forward Caleb Dawson has signed an NOJHL card with Powassan after netting 23 goals, 25 assists, 48 points in 27 games, regular season and playoffs included, for the Great North playoff champion North Bay U18 Trappers in 2022-2023.

The 6-foot-2, 175 pound Dawson, who has a 2006 birth date, was subsequently selected by the North Bay Battalion in the second round of the 2023 OHL supplemental draft.

Powassan head coach Peter Goulet gave his views on Dawson as a player and a person.

“Caleb has great size, is a solid skater and has the ability to score goals. When you looked at his points per game, he led the Great North U18 League in that category. If he doesn’t break his hand he probably leads the league in scoring,” said Goulet.

“He is a tremendous kid and I am looking forward to coaching him and watching him develop,” Goulet added in further praise of Dawson. “He has so much upside, he is going to be so good once he gets his first year under his belt and I know a lot of other teams had interest in him and for him to choose to stay home and play with us is huge for our organization.”
