It is a deal that is finally official after being in the works for more than a month.

That is, Hockey News North has confirmed that the Soo Thunderbirds have obtained homegrown product Cole Delarosbil from the Espanola Express in a cash exchange.

A 6-foot-1, 190 pound forward with a 2001 birth date, Delarosbil has played the past two Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League seasons in Espanola, totaling 11 goals, five assists, 16 points in 38 games for the Express.

He is a graduate of the Sault Major Hockey Association, having come up through the ranks.

Known for his work ethic and commitment to the game, Delarosbil will add a veteran NOJHL presence to the Thunderbirds, who are poised to ice a rather young team for the 2021-2022 season.

He also helps to fulfill a mandate of Thunderbirds new head coach Cole Jarrett and incoming general manager Jamie Henderson of having a roster laden with local lads.

Henderson said the Thunderbirds are “excited to be able to bring a local kid home for his final season of junior hockey.

“Cole has a great reputation as a great teammate who leads by way of example,” Henderson told Hockey News North. “We expect him just to be himself and to be a big part of our team. We are really happy to have a good young man like Cole with us.”
