Eagles edge Wisconsin again
A buzzer beater goal by Jack Mortson with 10 seconds left in the third period — and overtime looming — lifted the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to a stunning 4-3 triumph over the Wisconsin Lumberjacks of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League in an inter-league exhibition match today.
Trailing by two goals at one point, the Eagles rallied for the 4-3 win to complete a two game weekend sweep of the visitors from Wisconsin.
The Eagles also won the first game of the exhibition set by the same 4-3 score.
Despite the back to back losses, Wisconsin — which is in a distant fifth place among the seven teams of the SIJHL — showed well against the Michigan Eagles, who are the second seed in the NOJHL’s West Division standings.
