Soo Eagles used the home ice of Pullar Stadium on Friday to halt the remarkable 26-game unbeaten streak of the Powassan Voodoos.

Before a crowd of more than 570 spectators, Brendan Schultz tallied twice and Kade Phipps made 29 saves to spark the Eagles to a 4-1 triumph over the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League-leading Voodoos, who lost for the first time since October 11.

The victory moved the Eagles into a third-place tie with the Rayside-Balfour Canadians and within one point of the Blind River Beavers in the West Division of the NOJHL. However, the Eagles have played five more games than Rayside-Balfour and three more than Blind River.

Still, with 44 points from a record of 21-19-2, the surging Eagles continued their winning ways with their third straight triumph.

The Eagles are home again tonight when the Elliot Lake Wildcats visit the Michigan Soo for a 7 p.m. match at Pullar Stadium.

What you think about “Eagles end Voodoos spell”

  1. I listen to the broadcast on 1400 last night. Announcer mention 5 vodoo players where not playing. . He was not happy about that. Not fair to the fans.
.anyway hats off too the eagles for the win you still have too play good to win.

  2. The Soo Eagles were also short Palmerio, Hubbard, and McEbby. Great win for the Eagles, have to admit they were the better team!

  3. Gervais Rolfe was not playing either. So 4 players. Not five.
But I’m sure they weren’t playing for good reason.
