Eagles ink big defenseman
Veteran defenseman Matt Meininger is headed to the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League to suit up for the Soo Eagles.
A Michigan native, Meininger returns to his home state after spending the 2014-2015 season with the Cumberland Grads of the Central Canada Hockey League and dividing the 2015-2016 campaign between the Odessa Jackalopes and Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League.
Meininger, who stands in at 6-foot-1 and weighs 215 pounds, has a 1996 birth date.
Between the CCHL and NAHL, he has played in 85 games the past two seasons.
Eagles co-coach Bruno Bragagnolo confirmed the signing of Meininger to HockeyNewsNorth.com.
“He’s a big, stay-at-home defenseman who we feel is going to give us a very-steady presence back of the blueline,” said Bragagnolo. “We see him as being the anchor of our defense.”
I have seen Matt play last season in a game , what a good player, he should be one of the top D-man in the league. Another great pick-up for Soo Eagles.
In Coach Bruno “We Trust”. Cant wait for the Season to begin!
Just wait until the TBirds get ahold a the Eagles … POW..POW..POW..POW.
Bye Bye Eagles .. AGAIN!
My son played against Matt when he was in high school and he was a beast back then.
