Another northern lad has signed up to play for the Elliot Lake Vikings. Martin Brassard, a 2008 birth year forward from Sudbury, has become the sixth player from the north region to commit to Elliot Lake ahead of the 2024-2025 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season.

The 5 foot 9, 160 pound Brassard left his Sudbury home to skate for the Quinte Red Devils under 16 AAA team in 2023-2024 and totalled 10 goals, six assists, 16 points in 39 games. He previously played at the AAA level for the Sudbury Nickel Capitals and Nickel City Sons.

Mike Nesbitt, who was hired during this off season as the new head coach of the NOJHL Vikings, took note of Brassard’s smarts.

“Martin is a very intelligent centre man who sees the ice well. He is not a big guy but he doesn’t back down from the puck battles,” Nesbitt relayed to Hockey News North.
