Elliot Lake to Elmira College
Hulking forward Spencer MacLean has committed to Elmira College, a New York-based, Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association program of good repute.
MacLean, who has a 1996 birth date, has played the past two seasons with the Elliot Lake Wildcats of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. In 61 games with Elliot Lake in 2015-2016, regular season and playoffs included, MacLean potted 33 goals, 51 assists, 84 points.
In heading to Elmira College, MacLean had this to say to HockeyNewsNorth.com.
“The hockey program at Elmira College has a long history of being very successful and with the coaching staff’s philosophy of how well the players are treated, I felt like it was the obvious choice for me.”
Wildcats general manager Todd Stencill had good words for what MacLean did for Elliot Lake.
“Spencer has been a member of our team during our first two seasons as an organization,” Stencill began. “He has represented us well in league play, in inter-league play (Central Canada Cup) and in the community. The Elliot Lake Wildcats are proud to see Spencer move on to a higher level of hockey were we know he’ll excel as he did in the NOJHL.”
Elmira College coach Aaron Saul did his homework in recruiting MacLean.
“We were fortunate enough to see Spencer at the Chowder Cup in Boston and then again at the Central Canada Cup tournament,” Saul relayed to HockeyNewsNorth.com. “I’m excited to have a player of his talent and character joining Elmira College’s Soaring Eagles.”
Awesome news! Always loved the way MacLean played. Goal scorers of his size and skill are hard to find. Will miss watching him and some of his train wreck hits here in Elliot Lake.
All the best going forward, Captain MacLean!!
