Espanola Express has added a pair of forwards as the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League expansion team moves forward.

Charlie Venedam and Patrick Smith recently joined the Express and are with the team on its current three-game road trip.

“We have a game plan and are sticking to it and feel it is coming together nicely, we are happy with our core group of players and left roster space on purpose to make these additions as part of the plan, we just needed time to assess our core and find what spaces needed to be filled and are now looking to fill them,” said Express associate coach Jason Rapcewicz, in explaining the addition of the two players.

A northern Ontario boy who hails from the Sudbury area, Venedam is a 6-foot, 200-pound, 1995 birth-year forward who scored 19 goals in 29 games while playing in the Thunder Bay Jr. B Hockey League last season.

Smith, a 5-foot-11, 190-pounder with a 1996 birth date, was acquired from the NOJHL’s Elliot Lake Wildcats. Smith had 2 points in his Espanola debut.

The Express takes a record of 1-11 into Kirkland Lake tonight for a match with the Gold Miners.
