Make that another one-goal win for Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.

Sam Wilbur’s goal with 42 seconds left in the third period lifted Kirkland Lake to a 3-2 triumph over visiting Espanola Rivermen in Game 3 of their best-of-seven, second-round, Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series on Tuesday night.

Kirkland Lake now leads the series three games to none, having won the first two contests by identical 2-1 scores.

Game 4 is slated for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

In the other second-round series, Abitibi Eskimos play host to Soo Thunderbirds tonight at 7:30 at Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls.

The Soo leads the series two games to none.

What you think about “Gold Miners strike again”

  1. 4 great teams to watch in these semi finals! Lots of good fast paced hockey for the players and fans alike!

  2. Very exciting and entertaining game last night at KL complex – playoff hockey at its best and fans got their monies worth for sure. Both teams played great and it looked like OT until Wilbur scored his “seeing eye” goal top shelf from a difficult angle. Both goalies were solid and it was end-to-end all night. Espanola played KL tough as they always do but once again, they came away empty-handed. They have a very good team, but KL has managed to find the right keys to winning. Hopefully, the ‘miners can wrap it up tomorrow night!

  3. I don’t see Espanola winning 4 straight to beat KL. Let’s see if the coaches shake hands this time ??

Not having Horo in net won’t be a factor like most of you thought. The SOO is just too loaded for Abi to win. Kment is no Horo but neither are the Abi goalers.

  4. You mean the game that Mazzuca said play or
forfeit,no the user groups that had the ice
booked have given up their time for the game.

    1. Actually that is wrong. They have worked with
the user groups in Espanola not sure where
      you are but that’s funny

  5. Way to go Sam.
We will be cheering for you and Pease
Kirkland Lake and The Sault should be a good series.
    Go Kirkland Lake Go
