Sudbury Cubs of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have added a second player with a 2007 birth date who was picked by the Sudbury Wolves at the 2023 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft.

Cubs managing director Blaine Smith has confirmed to Hockey News North that smart, skilled, small size defenseman Hudson Martin has signed an NOJHL card with Sudbury.

Martin was drafted by the Wolves in the 14th round of the ’23 OHL priority selections process from the Under 18 AAA North Central Predators program. He showed an offensive upside with North Central with eight goals in 38 games over the course of the 2022-2023 season.

Martin has junior hockey roots through his father, Neal Martin.

The elder Martin played in parts of four OHL seasons with both the Soo Greyhounds and his hometown Sudbury Wolves as a high-end, high-scoring defenseman and a person of good character. He also developed in the NOJHL with the Elliot Lake Vikings. He then followed his junior hockey playing days with an ironman, 15-year pro career that included several seasons in Britain and Denmark.

Back to the younger Martin, he was chosen from a host of other top candidates to fill one of the two 2007 birth year roster spots on the NOJHL Cubs.

Besides Martin, the other is fellow OHL Wolves draft pick Hudson Chitaroni. As was previously reported by Hockey News North, Chitaroni — who is a plum prospect as an outstanding two-way forward — signed with the NOJHL Cubs earlier this summer after being a third round pick by the OHL Wolves from the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League.
