It’s over in North Bay

It’s all over for the North Bay Trappers.

In more ways than one.

The Trappers on Tuesday were eliminated from the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoffs, dropping a 6-1 decision to the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.

Kirkland Lake won the first-round, best-of-seven series in four straight games, by scores of 3-1, 5-2, 5-2, 6-1.

Regular-season and playoffs included, the Trappers finished the 2013-2014 campaign with a record of 0-12-1.

Tuesday’s Game 4 of the playoffs– a home contest for North Bay — was again played in nearby Mattawa.

Trappers owner David Beauchamp told Baytoday.ca in North Bay that he is optimistic the team will be playing full-time out of Mattawa next season.

DAWSON IS DONE

Meantime, Trappers general manager Chris Dawson has confirmed to me that he will not be returning to the team next season.

The respectable Dawson has been a part of the Trappers organization for three seasons.

Dawson said he will stay in the game as a scout for the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League.

What you think about “It’s over in North Bay”

  1. Is it even possible that the Trappers will be back next season? I find that hard to believe, unless DB wins the lottery.
Does he even have the right to say what the team will or will not be doing, since he ALLEGEDLY broke the agreement with the last owner for non payment?
In my opinion Beauchamp will have no choice but to file for bankruptcy and that will negate his NOJHL franchise rights. Is it safe to say that the previous owner will be the one who decides the future of this team?

    1. is it true that DB has been served by a court representative to cease and desist all affiliation with the NBT for breaking the agreement between himself and the previous owner?

  2. I hear the same Chesty. I hear the commissioner is trying to step in but really has no legal terms to do so, then again this is hearsay. The previous owner would regain the rights to the team according if the agreement has been broken. So this would make two teams for sure gone. The pyramid seems to have fallen apart from the top down. Really it is too bad.

  3. I believe unless instructed otherwise DB will try to make a go of it in Mattawa.
He has full support from the Town/Mayor etc.., as they would be ecstatic to have a team there.
    The following was announced on facebook , so it seems they are operating with the sense that they are able to;

rookie camp Mattawa April 18th-20th registration Friday April 18th 3pm-5pm spots limited!

rookie camp cost $100 April 18th-20th players birthyear 98-94 email Dave at davidbeauchamp77@hotmail.com #newblackhawks

  4. How, when the previous owner will be taking the team back? Unless Dave has won the lottery and paid his bills.

  5. David Beauchamp hasn’t got a pot to piss in. From what I hear he has bounced checques all along the way. From Billets, The Town of North Bay, Sport NGIN, just to name a few. Ask them!
