Sudbury Cubs, Timmins Rock, Thunder Bay North Stars and Sioux Lookout Bombers all posted wins on Friday as best-of-seven playoffs continued in both the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and Superior International Jr. Hockey League.

NOJHL

Sudbury 5, Espanola 3. Nick Toffoli scored the game winner at 19:28 of the third period and Pierson Sobush capped a three-point outing with an empty net marker at 19:52 as the Cubs took a 2-0 series lead over the visiting Paper Kings before 575 fans at Walden Community Center. Devin Mauro scored twice for Espanola.

Timmins 8, French River 2. Playing at home, the Rock shrugged off an early 2-0 deficit to win the series opener over the Rapids in convincing fashion. 50-goal scorer Brady Harroun paced Timmins with two goals and league scoring champion Nic Pigeon had four assists.

SIJHL

Thunder Bay 4, Red Lake 3. Colby Fiest scored twice as the North Stars took a 2-0 series lead. Quintyn Sidaway had a pair of goals for the Miners.

Sioux Lookout 5, Wisconsin 3. Jake Manners made 40 saves as the Bombers took a 1-0 series lead. Zach Johnson had a pair of goals for the Lumberjacks.
