Soo Thunderbirds and Dryden Ice Dogs have advanced to the next round as best-of-seven playoff action continued in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and Superior International Jr. Hockey League. Meanwhile, Hearst Lumberjacks and Sioux Lookout Bombers also posted Friday victories.

NOJHL

Soo 6, Blind River 2. Michael Chaffay, Brock Santa Maria and Anton Petrovskiy all had two point outings as the Thunderbirds eliminated the Beavers in five games.

Hearst 7, Powassan 3. Playing at home, the Lumberjacks got two goals from Tyler Patterson to avoid elimination and force a Game 6 with the Voodoos, who now lead the series 3-2.

SIJHL

Dryden 9, Fort Frances 2. More than 650 fans watched at Dryden Memorial Arena as the Ice Dogs cuffed the Lakers to take series in five games. Bryce Benfield, James Hooton and McLaren Paulsen all fired two goals apiece for Dryden.

Sioux Lookout 4, Wisconsin 3. Alex Lucas scored in overtime to give the Bombers a 3-2 series lead over the visiting Lumberjacks, who outshot the home side 60-40.
