Matthew Kallo to Elliot Lake

Elliot Lake Vikings have added a veteran presence to their blue line via trade with their arch-rival Blind River Beavers.

Matthew Kallo, a 6-foot, 180 pound defenseman with a 2005 birth date, heads to Elliot Lake from Blind River in a cash transaction.

An Espanola product, Kallo played in 51 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League games with Blind River since the start of the 2022-2023 season. He put up one goal, seven assists, eight points in a Beavers uniform.

Kallo becomes the 11th player with northern Ontario roots on the Elliot Lake roster.

Prior to signing with Blind River ahead of the ’22-23 season, Kallo played for the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Under 18 Hockey League.

Heading into the upcoming NOJHL Showcase, Elliot Lake is in last place in the NOJHL’s West Division with a record of 1-6-1. Meanwhile, Blind River holds down second spot in the West with a record of 6-2-0.
