Kirkland Lake Gold Miners can all but put away the Espanola Rivermen with a win tonight.

The Gold Miners lead their second-round, best-of-seven, Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series with the Rivermen two games to none by virtue of a pair of 2-1 victories.

Tonight’s Game 3 is scheduled to start at 7:30 at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex in Kirkland Lake.

Through the first two games of the series, Kirkland Lake has held Espanola shooters at bay, permitting only 48 shots on goal.

Gold Miners goaltender Jeremy Pominville has stopped 46 of the 48 shots directed his way.

In fact, Pominville has lost shutout bids in the final minute in each of the two games.

What you think about “Kirkland Lake in command”

  1. Has been an incredibly tight back and forth series. Rivermen need to push on the gas if they want to get back in this series tonight. KL has put on a defensive clinic, trapping the neutral zone and collapsing in the lane in front of the net, almost impossible to get a shot through!!! go Rivermen go!!!

  2. Not a fan of the “trap” but if it helps the team I am cheering for then so be it. Go G-Miners Go!

  3. I think the people in Kingston were saying the same thing R.R. after being up 3-0 on Peterborough and they are now in a game 7 my friend.
