The boss is still the boss. Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League commissioner Rob Mazzuca will continue to have considerable say and authority as the chair of the board for the Canadian Jr. Hockey League.

Born and raised — and still residing — in the Greater Sudbury Area, the 64-year old Mazzuca was recently acclaimed as the chair of the board for the Canada-wide CJHL at its annual general meeting.

Mazzuca, who has been the chair of the board for the CJHL since 2021, will begin his 16th season as the commissioner of the NOJHL once it re-opens for business ahead of the ’26-27 season. Under Mazzuca, the NOJHL has grown from seven to 12 teams.

“It continues to be an honour and privilege to operate in my role as the chair of the board for the CJHL,” relayed Mazzuca. “My colleagues and I, along with our partners at Hockey Canada, remain focused on the betterment of Jr. A hockey across the country, in all facets of the game.”

Mazzuca has a long involvement in the game that includes four seasons as a high scoring defenseman in the Ontario Hockey League for his hometown Sudbury Wolves as well as the Soo Greyhounds. He also played at the Canadian University level.

The well spoken, even keeled Mazzuca is also one of the first group of inductees into the Hockey North Hall of Fame, which was established in 2025.

Notably, the nine leagues that make up the CJHL — of which Mazzuca is the chair — are as follows.

  • AJHL: Alberta Jr. Hockey League
  • CCHL: Central Canada Hockey League
  • MJHL: Manitoba Jr. Hockey League
  • MHL: Maritime Jr. Hockey League
  • NOJHL: Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League
  • OJHL: Ontario Jr. Hockey League
  • SJHL: Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League
  • SIJHL: Superior International Jr. Hockey League
  • LHJAAAQ: Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Québec (Quebec Jr. Hockey League).
