A pair of late third-period goals lifted the unbeaten Soo Thunderbirds to a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over the visiting Timmins Rock in Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League play from Friday.

After Nathan Hebert tied the game for the T-Birds with just under three minutes to play, fellow third-year forward Matt Mitchell won it for the home team by scoring a power-play goal with 15 seconds left on the clock.

The win for the reigning NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup, Central Canada champion Thunderbirds boosted their record to 4-0 while Timmins fell to 1-3 with the setback.

Timmins crosses the International Bridge to play the Soo Eagles tonight in a 7 p.m. clash at Pullar Stadium.

The Eagles won their first game of the young season on Friday after two earlier setbacks to the Thunderbirds to begin their return to the NOJHL after three years in the North American Hockey League.

Playing at home, the Eagles got 24 saves from goalie Jack Deines and Soo, Ontario product Jake Palmerio scored his second goal in three games as the Michiganders cuffed the Blind River Beavers 4-1.
