New owner Adrian Gedye has brought sweeping changes to the Rayside-Balfour Canadians that includes the return of time-tested, title-winning coaches to the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Gedye, who has taken over ownership of the Rayside-Balfour franchise from previous operators Mike Mooney and Chris Whitehead, has brought in former NOJHL coach-of-the-year and erstwhile Ontario Hockey League player Darryl Moxam as the Canadians new bench boss and director of hockey operations.

Also back in the NOJHL is the venerable Dave Clancy, who will serve as the Canadians general manager and associate coach.

In previous NOJHL gigs, Moxam and Clancy both coached the erstwhile Sudbury Jr. Wolves to Dudley-Hewitt Cup, Central Canada championship appearances.

Moxam and Clancy have the added experience of having spent recent time with the Laurentian University Voyageurs hockey program as assistant coaches. Clancy has also scouted for the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL.

Moxam and Clancy in essence replace the duo of Jason Young and Keane Cronin atop the Canadians hockey operations department.

Also joining the all-new RBC staff as assistant coaches are Vagelli Sakellaris and Barrie Moore.

Sakellaris has coached with considerable success at the minor hockey level in Sudbury for a number of years.

Like Moxam, Moore is also a former OHL forward of many seasons. Moore went on to skate in 39 National Hockey League games as a ninth-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres back in 1993.

Meanwhile, as owner, Gedye has confirmed the return of trainer Lisa Parise, equipment manager Brian Workman and game day co-ordinator Grant Trayner from the 2015-2016 Rayside staff.

In assembling a coaching staff with deep hockey roots, the well-connected Gedye called on past associations and relationships.

“Having the staff that we have put together is a huge asset,” Gedye told HockeyNewsNorth.com. “Having them will be great for our players and a great recruiting tool.”
