Paul Noad said he wasn’t looking to sell the Elliot Lake Red Wings. But when he was approached to sell the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League franchise, the wheels went into motion for what is being returned to old roots as the Elliot Lake Vikings.

After two years at the helm, Noad has officially confirmed the transfer of the NOJHL’s Elliot Lake franchise to local resident Jef Jarmovitch. Jarmovitch, who has been an assistant coach with Elliot Lake over the past two seasons, played for his hometown team when it was known as the Vikings.

“We have enjoyed our time running the hockey team in Elliot Lake over the past two years,” Noad relayed to Hockey News North. “When Jef approached me about taking over the franchise, we began the process and then completed the deal, which the NOJHL board of governors has approved.”

Meanwhile, in taking over ownership of the franchise, Jarmovitch noted that “I am looking forward to the upcoming season as the newly re-branded Elliot Lake Vikings. The Vikings have deep roots to the community of Elliot Lake (dating back to the 1970s.) My commitment is to rebuild a program that will entice players to consider Elliot Lake as a top destination to play their Junior A hockey.”
