Graduated goalie Derrick Champagne is moving on from the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Jr.Hockey League to the Niagara University Purple Eagles of American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 ranks.

Champagne put together a good ’25-26 season with the Voodoos and was named to the league’s third all-star team following a record of 20-7-1.

Powassan general manager Chris Dawson noted that Champagne had multiple options before joining Niagara University, where former Voodoos captain Alex Little plays.

“This is great news for Derrick as he sifted through many opportunities, and credit goes to former head coach Peter Goulet (now an assistant coach with the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League) for helping him in this process too,” said Dawson.

Champagne joins defensemen Marcus Krats and Ben Gisonni, who are headed to skate at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 3 level in the fall, defender Bruce Grey and forward Raphael Landry, who are going overseas to play in the new European Union College Hockey League as Powassan grads who are moving on.
