Sudbury Nickel Barons have seized home-ice advantage — and then some — in their first-round, best-of-seven, Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series with the favoured Elliot Lake Wildcats.

After winning the series opener 4-1 in Elliot Lake on Friday, Sudbury took a 2-0 lead in the set on Saturday with a 5-2 triumph over the visiting Wildcats.

Sudbury had finished third in the NOJHL West Division standings during the regular season behind second-seeded Elliot Lake.

In Saturday’s Game 2 triumph, Jimmy Roy and Jacob Bonin had three-point outings and Jessie Morin made 41 saves as the Nickel Barons tallied four third-period goals en route to the home-ice triumph.

Game 3 in the series is slated for Monday in Elliot Lake.
