Best-of-seven playoff finals in the West and East Divisions of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League resume this week.

On the West side, the regular-season champion Soo Thunderbirds are in Elliot Lake tonight for Game 2 of that set.

In the series opener on Saturday in the Soo, the Thunderbirds overcame the spectacular goaltending of Elliot Lake’s Aaron Mackay to edge the Wildcats 3-2 on an overtime-winning goal by Matthew Caruso. Mackay made 48 saves in defeat for Elliot Lake.

Game 3 of the series is back on the Soo on Wednesday. Game 4 is slated for Friday in Elliot Lake.

On the East side, Cochrane Crunch and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners are tied at a game apiece with both teams posting road decisions.

Game 3 of the CC-KL mix is tabbed for Tuesday night in Cochrane, where the Crunch drew more than 700 fans for the series opener.
