First round playoff action is underway within the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. Sudbury Cubs have a 2-0 lead on the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners while the surprising Soo Eagles are up two on the Powassan Voodoos as are the Hearst Lumberjacks ahead of the Espanola Paper Kings by the same margin. Meantime, the Timmins Rock and Soo Thunderbirds are even at a game apiece. All series are best of seven.
Cubs in control. No. 1 seed Sudbury Cubs used home ice to open up a 2-0 series lead on the no. 8 Kirkland Lake Gold Miners. Neither game was close as the Cubs clipped KL by 9-1 and 6-1 scores. Defenseman Spencer Horgan produced two goals, four assists, six points in the two wins to spark Sudbury, which got 49 saves from Iain Wintle over the back to back triumphs. Besides Horgan, among the players who put up multiple points for Sudbury in the two wins was 2009 birth year forward Ty Dubreuil, a 2025 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft pick of the Windsor Spitfires.

Eagles soar on the road. No. 7 seed Soo Eagles stunned the no. 2 seed Powassan Voodoos with 7-4 and 6-1 road wins. Jacob Peterson had three goals for the Eagles but the star of the show for the Michigan Soo was goalie Jace Knoerle, who made a remarkable 109 saves in the wins.
Lumberjacks clip Paper Kings. Playing at home, no. 3 seed Hearst handled Espanola by 4-3 and 7-0 scores. Lumberjacks goalie Jack Helkie, formerly of the Paper Kings, had the shutout.
Rock and T-Birds are tied. After the visiting no. 5 seed Soo Thunderbirds took the opener 4-3 in overtime, no. 4 seed Timmins rebounded to tie the series with a resounding 6-1 verdict. Maxx Hamelin and Kaeden McArthur both totalled three goals for Timmins while Aiden Atkinson had three assists for the Thunderbirds.































































Powassan Coach/owner is a disgrace.
Swept out again by Soo Eagles this time and challenging an OT goal like it would have made a difference. A real sportsman that guy.
