NOJHL playoff update
Rayside-Balfour Canadians have tied their series with Blind River Beavers while Powassan Voodoos have advanced to the next round of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoffs.
Second-year forward Cayse Ton scored his third goal of the game with six seconds remaining in the third period to avoid overtime and give Rayside-Balfour a 3-2 decision over visiting Blind River to even the best-of-seven set at two games apiece.
Game five in the series is slated for Blind River on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Powassan, meanwhile, completed a four-game sweep of Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in Thursday’s other playoff match with a 7-6 road decision.
The Voodoos had a 6-1 lead going the third period before the Gold Miners staged a frantic comeback that fell just short.
Powassan had won the first three games of the series with relative ease — by 5-1, 5-2 and 5-1 scores.
NOJHL playoff action continues tonight when the Soo Eagles play host to the Soo Thunderbirds in a 7:30 tilt at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo.
The Eagles lead the best-of-seven series 3-0.
