NOJHL to Powassan?

June 9, 2014

A source close to the scene is saying that the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League could — could — have a team in Powassan for the 2014-2015 season.

Powassan — which is located a mere 18 miles from North Bay — has been home to a team in the Greater Metro Jr. Hockey League since 2008.

North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League would have a direct affiliation with Powassan should it become a part of the NOJHL, according to the source.

North Bay had been a part of the NOJHL since 2002 as first the Skyhawks and then the Trappers but the franchise has been approved to relocate to nearby Mattawa for the 2014-2015 season and be called the Blackhawks.

The NOJHL will hold its Annual General Meeting in Sault Ste. Marie on the June 20 weekend.

What you think about “NOJHL to Powassan?”

  1. Wow, does the NOJHL need to expand that bad, that they would leave loyal Mattawa owner David Beauchamp out in the cold like that? With the Battalion affiliation to this new team what local kid would want to play in Mattawa? Does the NOJHL know something we don’t about the Blackhawks future? Wouldn’t a new team closer to North Bay cut off the lifeline of players and fans to Mattawa? Wouldn’t this new team take away any chance of survival for the Mattawa team? Does Bazooka even have a conscience? Is this why DB started selling off players again last week? I guess time will tell.

  2. I would love the league to get back to 8 teams ! lets hope everything can be worked and it this happens !

  3. I heard young Beauchamp was the one that walked into city hall in Powassan and made them aware of the NOJHL and the benefits of the league, form what I heard Beauchamp has 3 Jr B affiliates in the EOJHL in Ottawa and has some connections in the MJHL. Either way this is going to be a great rivalry.
