Dogged defenseman Tenzin Nyman is in a pole position to upgrade from depth defender to regular role with the reigning Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League champion Timmins Rock in 2023-2024.

Nyman, who was an invite to the Timmins training camp last fall and impressed head coach and general manager Brandon Perry enough to be offered a spot on the team, has signed up to return to the Rock in ’23-24. Nyman, who has a 2004 birth date, played in 48 regular season games and then suited up in five playoff matches for Timmins in 2022-2023 and totalled one goal, 10 assists, 1 1 points as the youngest defenseman on the Rock.

Perry, as the Timmins hockey boss, is a big fan of Nyman as a player and a person.

“Absolutely pumped to have ‘T’ back with us this coming season,” Perry relayed to Hockey News North. “We are expecting him to play a bigger role. Besides his fearless play, he is an unbelievable person and teammate and we are super excited to see how far he can take his game in the season ahead.”

With the graduation of three 2002 birth year defensemen from the Timmins championship team — including his all-star older brother Kenyon Nyman — the younger Nyman will most definitely have the opening and opportunity to be a top blue liner for the Rock in ’23-24 alongside the likes of well-seasoned returnees Felix Cadieux-Fredette and Kyle Trottier.

Standing in at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, the right-hand shooting Nyman hails from Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
