One for the EL Vikings
They went on the road on Saturday night and worked overtime. And they won. Elliot Lake Vikings orchestrated a comeback triumph over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners for their first victory of the ’24-25 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season.
Dylan Hendrick scored with 16 seconds left in the third period to tie the game and defenseman Carter Carriere clicked two and a half minutes into the OT to give Elliot Lake a 5-4 win over the hosts from Kirkland Lake.
The initial win of the season for Elliot Lake came after it began the ’24-25 campaign with three losses. It was also the first NOJHL victory for Vikings’ rookie head coach Mike Nesbitt.
Elliot Lake has played all four of its games to date on the road ahead of this week’s annual NOJHL Showcase Tournament in Sudbury.
