Free agent skater Teegan Dumont has signed with the Espanola Paper Kings of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, Hockey News North has confirmed.

Teegan Dumont

The 19-year old Dumont, who can play forward or defence, was released by his hometown Elliot Lake Red Wings earlier this month. He had two goals, two assists, four points in eight NOJHL games with Elliot Lake this season prior to being released.

With good size at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Dumont played in 37 games for Elliot Lake during the 2021-2022 season and had one goal, 12 assists, 13 points. He also has NOJHL experience with the Blind River Beavers.

Dumont joins an Espanola team that has a record of 14-11-4 for 32 points and is tied with the Soo Eagles for fourth place in what is a tough, tough NOJHL West Division.

Espanola president and head coach Jason Rapcewicz likes what Dumont is capable of bringing to the Paper Kings, noting that his new acquisition will play forward.

“I think his size and presence will be an asset to us. He will get an opportunity to play and we feel that his abilities will translate into him being a key asset as a power forward for our club,” Rapcewicz relayed to Hockey News North.

Dumont has had issues with on-ice and discipline, something that Rapcewicz is well aware of.

“Discipline will be the key to his success but we have had an opportunity to sit down with Teegan and discuss his role and we are both on the same page of what he needs to do to be successful,” noted Rapcewicz.
