An old teammate was the masked culprit as a nine game winning streak of the Sudbury Cubs came to a halt by way of Espanola Paper Kings goalie Jake Marois.

Jake Marois

The 19-year old Marois, who was acquired by Espanola from Sudbury in an off season Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League trade, made 41 saves as the visiting Paper Kings clipped the Cubs 4-1 on Thursday. A Sudbury product, Marois now has a 7-5-1 record with a .924 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average for Espanola, which is in fourth place in the NOJHL’s West Division with a record of 15-11-4. Marois, who began the 2022-2023 season on the injured list and didn’t make his Paper Kings debut until Oct. 28, has been a workhorse for Espanola since being activated.

Meanwhile, as Sudbury’s nine game winning streak is over, the Cubs remain in first place in the West Division with a league-best record of 25-5-2.
